The Harpswell Foundation is dedicated to empowering a new generation of women leaders in Southeast Asia. Based in Harpswell’s leadership centers in Phnom Penh, Cambodia, the Leadership Residency is a professional development and volunteer opportunity. Leadership Residents (LRs) and LR Fellows support, mentor, teach, collaborate with, and live alongside Cambodian Women’s Leadership students and alumnae. This program allows international women to refine their professional interests, define their leadership style, and engage in hands-on social impact while experiencing cross-cultural exchange.

Benefits

  • Living Expenses: Full room and board at the leadership centers in Phnom Penh, including daily Khmer meals.
  • Stipend: A monthly stipend reflective of the cost-of-living in Phnom Penh ($330 USD for LRs, $420 USD for LR Fellows).
  • Insurance: Full travel insurance for the duration of the program.
  • Cultural Exchange: Program-sponsored provincial homestays with a Harpswell student and their family.
  • Note: Participants are responsible for making their own travel arrangements to and from Cambodia.

Eligibility

  • Open to international women with a university degree.
  • A commitment to social change, women’s leadership, and education.
  • A genuine curiosity for cross-cultural learning and the experiences of others.
  • Resourcefulness, flexibility, and the ability to work independently.
  • Excellent spoken and written English language skills.
  • A willingness to work non-traditional hours (frequent evenings and weekends).
  • For LR Fellows specifically: Must have 2+ years of professional experience (teaching experience is strongly preferred).
